Surviving Cancer

As Humanly possible a person emerges from the depths of fighting Cancer. Scarred, mutilated, scorched and drained yet above all alive. When personally touched by this demon my mind and hands connected to it could not go on to sculpt from life without reflecting on its ups and downs. Our gracious model Wen posed for us last and although she has a lovely, shapely and complete figure; my eyes saw her beauty and my hands steered the figure in clay into an unknown realm.
A week ago at the Saddleback Gallery open house, this art work disturbed a few art lovers and they came to me with stunned faces. They had been accostumed to seeing gracefull ,curvacious and sensual forms in my art; yet this was out of character and still demanded tenderness from the onlooker. In all reality who on earth has not been affected by one way or another by Cancer.
My reply was simple, I am glad it moved you , it is supposed to do just that.
This work is dedicated to my sweet and loving sister that endured a tough year and remained Human and alive thanks to our Lord and his miracle workers.
I love you Sis.
