monument to speed

for someone that loves cars and speed this tribute was inevitable. mascots for nameless car makes have always embodied lovely ladies in one pose or another piercing air at the forefront as they did on sailing ships years prior. I have been working on a smaller version of this figure in motion wax medium and because it was difficult to entirely express what was on my mind for this larger version I chose water based clay which has its own challanges.

I am very pleased with the end result, mainly to see an idea sketched on a throw away paper develop and get refined and executed in three dimentions. that is a joy in itself, my hope is that one day this figure will be adorned by a car collector and commissions it to be cast in silver or bronze.

there is something to be said about a woman ravished by speed and a breeze only acheived on a sunday drive along the coast or in the country, only thing missing is a scarf to flutter in the wind.
